“It really helps to know how much time you should be spending doing various everyday jobs on the pig unit. If you see that you're actually taking too long to do something, you can either increase labour resources or work more efficiently, by investing in machinery, perhaps.”

“Many dairy farmers could well benefit financially from taking a critical look at labour usage.”

The Work-Metrics programme has been designed to analyse on-farm labour use and labour efficiency.

Work-Metrics enables farmers to look in detail at where they are efficient, and inefficient, in terms of labour productivity and it highlights, for each farm, how the labour resource might be used more effectively.

There is significant variation in labour productivity across pig and dairy farms within the UK and across the EU. This variation presents great opportunities for improvement. Work-Metrics shows where on each farm these improvements might be made.

This site has been developed by Delta-innovation (a specialist rural and agricultural consultancy) and is intended to provide an introduction to Work-Metrics for farmers, academics and consultants. If you would like to find out more, then please follow the directions on the contacts page.
